The Alan May Weights Room at Sydney Boys High School

Since 2005 the school's Weights Room has been a fully functioning Strength & Conditioning facility, which caters for not only the boys who train to improve their physiques, but also those boys who are striving to improve their sporting performance.

All boys who attend the weights room are given a formalised Strength Program to suit their individual needs and address any weaknesses or imbalances that they may have. A Strength Coach is always on hand to monitor progress and correct any incorrect lifting techniques.

All parents are encouraged to visit the weights room at any time for an update on their child’s progress from Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Mr Kurt Rich or any of the other strength coaches that may be on duty.

Will Weights Training stunt my/my son's Growth?

This is the biggest myth around but it is still asked daily by parents if doing weights will stunt their child's growth. For more information on the subject, you can view the position paper of the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association: Resistance Training for Children and Adolescents
