Instructions for Prospective Casual Sport Coaches, Tutors
and Volunteers
Sport Coaches and Tutors
For those 17 years and 9 months and over
STEP 1
Apply for a Working With Children (WWCC) number
ALL PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEES MUST SUBMIT A “WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK” for
“PAID WORKERS”
- The cost is $80 (payable by the applicant) and a copy of the Outcome
Letter must be submitted to the school
- Instructions are available through the
Office of the Children's Guardian website.
- An outcome letter will be posted or emailed to you when the application
has been processed
- When you receive the WWCC Outcome Letter, proceed to Step 2
Please note the earliest age you can apply for a WWCC is 17 years, 9
months
STEP 2
Arrange an Employment Screening Interview
Contact the school on 02 9662 9300 to make an appointment with the School
Administrative Officer (SAO) who will process your application. Forms required
for the screening interview can be emailed or are available from the school.
STEP 3
Attend the Screening Interview
Bring the following information to your appointment with the SAO:
- WWCC Outcome Letter (not the application receipt)
- Completed "Declaration for Child-Related Workers" form
- Completed "Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check Application &
Informed Consent" form

Four identity documents. Each must be the original document
(not a digital copy).
You must supply:
- one commencement document
- one primary document
- two secondary documents
Refer to the Department of Education's
Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check - ID Requirements to determine valid forms of identity in each
category.
- Your BSB and bank account number.
- Your Tax File Number.
- Please allow approximately 30 minutes to complete the Department of Education Screening and
remaining documentation
- Office Hours are 9.00am to 3.00pm.
Note: document submission is by appointment only. Please be
punctual.
THE RESULTS OF BOTH SCREENINGS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE
SCHOOL BEFORE BEGINNING EMPLOYMENT
Results of the screenings are emailed to the relevant
Manager-in-Charge/Supervisor
STEP 4
You may begin employment when the Manager-in-Charge/Supervisor has received the clearance notice from
the processing SAO.
Volunteers
Applicability
Child-related Specified Volunteers - eg
parent sport volunteer, non-parent canteen volunteer
Parent Canteen
Volunteers - parent canteen volunteers are exempt from requiring a
WWCC (Step 1, below), but must attend a screening and complete a "Declaration
for Child-Related Workers"

- There is no cost to the applicant to apply as a volunteer
- A copy of the Outcome Letter must be submitted to the school

STEP 2

Identity document: a government-issued photo ID showing full
name, date of birth, current address and, if relevant, one change of name
document. The identity documents must be the original documents (not
a digital copy).
- Please allow approximately 15 minutes to complete the check
- Office Hours are 9.00am to 3.00pm.
Note document submission is by appointment only. Please be
punctual.
Results of the screenings are emailed to the relevant
Manager-in-Charge/Supervisor
STEP 4
You may commence duties when your Manager-in-Charge/Supervisor has received the clearance notice from
the processing SAO.
Note: Before commencing any form
of paid work a volunteer must obtain all the approvals of a paid worker detailed
in the section "Sport Coaches and Tutors", above. This includes obtaining a
"Working with Children Check for Paid Workers" (at a cost of $80 to the
applicant) as well as provide the requisite further identity documents and
making a declaration for a National Criminal History Check.
