High Talent
The Sydney Boys Golf team of Jason Hong, Sam Musgrove, Geoff
Tesoriero and Michael Kay successfully defended their title by winning the Sir Roden Cutler
Foundation Cup, held on Thursday 28 May at Concord Golf Club. The SBHS golf team shot a round of
13 under par in the ambrose event for a net score of 58.85. The day was aimed at raising enough
funds (c$27k) to convert one of the Foundation cars to have wheel chair accessibility. SBHS
students Bosco Tran (current Sir Roden and Lady Joan Cutler Scholarship holder), Harjas Ahuja,
Brandon Nguyen and Edmund Pan did a great job selling raffle tickets (>$4k) and helping with
the organisation on the day. Congratulations to all concerned! Last Friday our Eastside Year 12
debating team won the final for the 7th consecutive year. Well done to Max Koslowski,
Ganeshmoorthy Chandrasekaran and Thomas Shortridge for keeping our winning streak going! Our UN
Debating team (Andrew McNaughton, Esmond Ye and Vishal Karnamadakala) won through to the Rotary
Club Competition finals. Well done, boys and good luck!

High Spirit
Jesse Nixon (Year 12) is commended for his devotion and
compassion in providing emotional and personal support to a close friend who has been diagnosed
with cancer in her final year of school. She faces months of chemotherapy. At her request I
formally recognise Jesse’s support. She writes:
"I know that Jesse is a very active member of your school in academic and co-curricular
activities. Despite his busy schedule he has been available whenever I have needed him. Jesse has
provided emotional support, prepared food for me and my family and spends time with me when I
have felt down. He is also the best friend I could ever wish for!"
Student Leave Requests
I have been enforcing DEC policy on not granting
student leave requests during school term. A number of people have requested leave within the
four weeks deadline. Also, parents are asking for leave just before or just after school holiday
periods. DEC is strongly discouraging the practice of taking students out of school during term
time without a pressing reason – eg urgent family crisis or late sporting selection.
Reports
Years 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 reports have been distributed. Parents
should have had an opportunity to discuss with their sons the information in the reports about
what they know, understand and can do. There are still some stragglers left in Years 9-11. I hope
to have all reports to boys before the parent –teacher interviews but to do so, students
need to make appointments in the times provided.
