Languages other than English offered at Sydney Boys High School are: Chinese (Mandarin), French, German and Latin.

In Year 7, students are required to select TWO languages for study for the year from Chinese (Mandarin), French, German and Latin. Each language is studied for six periods per cycle for the full year.

In Year 8, students must continue languages study. Students must select one of their language from Year 7 to pursue. In Year 8, each language is studied for 7 periods per cycle.

In Years 9 and 10, students may elect to continue their languages studies. In Year 9, electives are timetabled for 7 periods a cycle, and in Year 10 for 10 periods.

In Years 11 and 12 , languages are offered to HSC level, at Continuers and Extension level. Chinese Heritage is normally offered as the Preliminary and HSC course for Chinese.

Additional languages may be studied through the Open High School.

Resources

A wide range of texts and electronic resources are utilised in the study of languages at Sydney Boys High School. Computer programmes such as French Language Market, Ni Hao Games and The Cambridge Latin Course on-line are popular with students.

Students are encouraged to apply for overseas scholarships and exchanges, and overseas trips are offered to students.

Many enrichment activities are offered, such as the Latin Reading Competitions and the Chinese Eisteddfod.
