Careers Education

All students at Sydney Boys High School have the opportunity of achieving their chosen pathway through the school's individually focussed Careers Education program. Our students are tertiary focussed with the majority proceeding to university.

By utilising the facilities available:

  • strong links with universities
  • individual guidance testing
  • targeted work experience opportunities
  • guest speakers

students are in a position to have sound knowledge of their chosen career pathway. Formulating an Action Plan is central to each student’s post school progress.

Formal interviews are conducted for each year 12 student with the Careers Adviser. Parents often request joint interviews. Interviews are able to be conducted with students from other year groups as requested.

Year 10 students are introduced to the process of planning secondary and post-secondary education pathways. Year 10 attend lessons involving the Senior Transition program and School to Work program. All year 10 boys have the opportunity to gain a Tax File Number (TFN) through the Careers Adviser.

All students in years 10, 11 and 12 are involved in completing Career Voyage - a careers guidance program. Students are also able to access the school's Careers Web Page. This is a comprehensive site with links to Universities, TAFE, Guidance Programs, Careers News and other links to help students with their future choices. Students are also encouraged to subscribe to the ‘email alerts’ service through ‘work study grow’, which will keep each student well informed of all career news.

Work experience is voluntary for years 10, 11 and 12 at any time that does not cause conflict with exams or assessment.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Combined Careers and Courses Evening’, run jointly with Sydney Girls High School.
